The Passenger for Kiton – an exclusive capsule – June 2017
The Passenger for Kiton: university students designed a capsule collection for Kiton
The Men’s tailoring course is taught by Prof. Roberto Liberti during the second year of the postgraduate degree course in Design for Innovation, Eco-Fashion curriculum of the DIcDEA department of the Scuola Politecnica e delle Scienze di Base dell’ Università degli Studi della Campania – Luigi Vanvitelli. An experimental training initiative has been set up that stems from the synergy created with KITON, a leading Italian company in the field of luxury menswear and bespoke tailoring.
The experimental initiative involves the creation of a 6 capsule collection of men’s jackets on the theme of “the passenger” which has been given a new twist by the students attending the postgraduate degree course. The designs were made into finished garments by the tailors from the historic KITON fashion house. This wholly Neapolitan venture is based on the collaboration, now in its second year, between the academic world and the productive world of Campania and is part of a wide-ranging research project on trends linked to the theme of the “passenger” – the ideal KITON customer – and six micro-trends created by the students attending the university course. These trends were presented on 10 May to international buyers at KITON’s headquarters, culminating in the creation of six models of bespoke jacket made up by highly skilled KITON artisans.
A unique opportunity which enabled the students to have real interaction with the company and gave them the possibility to see their designs transformed into finished products.
In overall terms, the project proved to be an interesting educational exercise which transformed theoretical training into practical work. Its ultimate goal was to develop effective prototypes of the jackets designed in synergy with the historic Neapolitan fashion house. It provided a unique opportunity which enabled the students to have real interaction with the company and gave them the possibility to see their designs transformed into finished products.
The experimental work led to active collaboration between the university world and the business world, culminating in the creation of 6 jackets which will be presented in the KITON boutique in Via Gesù 11 in Milan on 17 June 2017 as part of Men’s Fashion Week. The six capsules, which are due to be premiered in Milan in June, will then become part of the talent showcase of the FA.RE. workshop in the DICDEA department of the Università degli Studi della Campania.
